Author Guidelines

Before submitting your written entry, please ensure that you have reviewed and fulfilled the requirements listed above. Submissions that do not adhere to these guidelines may be rejected.

Decision Making and Review Process

  • Crime & Ethos employs a double blind peer-review process
  • The review process entails three (3) rounds, plus review by Copy Editors

Round I: Once all submissions have been collected, submissions will be randomly and anonymously assigned by the Editor-in-Chief to an Executive Editor for peer review. The Executive Editors will first ensure that the submission adheres to all of the submission guidelines or else it may lead to an immediate rejection. Executive Editors will conduct a thorough read of the submission, critically and impartially evaluate the submissions content for its academic rigor, relevance, clarity, and contribution to the field, and elect whether to have it be “Accepted,” “Revisions Required,” or “Rejected.” Executive Editors will have ten (10) business days to complete Round I. Once the editorial team has met to discuss the submissions, the Editor-in-Chief will contact authors and inform them of the decision.

Round II: For submissions deemed "Revisions Required," the Editor-in-Chief will provide authors with general and specific suggestions for revision. These comments are not required - they are to provide constructive criticism and improve the work. Authors will then have ten (10) business days to make revisions to their work and resubmit their submission for a second read.

Round III: Once all revised submission have been collected, once again the submissions will be randomly and anonymously assigned by the Editor-in-Chief to an Executive Editor for peer review. Executive Editors will conduct a thorough read of the submission and review any changes that have been made, before making a decision on publication (accepted or rejected). Executive Editors will have ten (10) business days to complete Round IIII. Once the editorial team has met to discuss the submissions, the Editor-in-Chief will contact authors and inform authors of the decision.

Accepted for Publication: If and when a submission is accepted for publication, the Editor-in-Chief will email all authors and ask for their written consent for the work to be published in Crime & Ethos. As well, authors will have to provide consent for Copy Editors to review their work and make minor changes as necessary. Once consent has been provided and Copy Editors have completed their revisions, the accepted works will be organized and complied for publication.

Rejected: If your submission has been rejected, this decision does not reflect on the quality of your research or its importance to the field of criminology. The selection process is highly competitive, and we have to make difficult decisions based on various factors. Our decision does not preclude the possibility of future submissions, and we would be pleased to consider any other work you believe fits our publication.

The current iteration of this journal will be published annually at the end of the school term (April).
