Call for papers, inaugural issue
Call for Papers, Inaugural Issue
We invite you to submit a paper to the inaugural issue of the International Journal for Creativity Inside (IJCI) scheduled for release on 1 October 2025. The journal accepts research articles for peer review as well as other articles curated by our editorial staff. The theme of the first issue is "The State of Arts in Corrections." We seek articles submitted from professional practitioners as well as academics and students, including incarcerated individuals, in countries worldwide. While the articles for this inaugural issue will be reviewed and curated by our editors, they will not be blind peer-reviewed.
As we independently and collectively build capacity for promoting further creativity in places of detention, we seek to understand what is or has been taking place around the country and the world that we can learn from in order to plan, implement, evaluate, and improve effective arts-in-corrections educational programs. Topics of interest for the inaugural issue include (proposed topics will also be considered):
- An overview of arts-in-corrections in a specified region, country, or state.
- The role of foundations in promoting arts-in-corrections educational (AIC) programs.
- Centralized sources of information on AIC programs and their evaluations.
- Organizations that promote AIC programs at the state and local levels.
- The role of libraries in promoting access to AIC materials in prisons.
- The role of lawyers in protecting intellectual property rights of creators working in detention.
- Supplementing AIC programs with poverty reduction and/or re-entry educational programming.
Articles are limited to 8,000 words and no more than 4 tables or figures.
Please submit an abstract of no more than 500 words by 20 April 2025. Editors will review abstracts and respond hopefully no later than 10 May. The deadline for submission of final papers is 1 September 2025. Please send your abstract to Mandy Gardner, Managing Editor.
